Windows users are maybe used to little errors and bugs on the OS. Microsoft Fix It is a little tool developed in July 2009 by Microsoft to protect the Microsoft Office users from hackers.

Quickly it became an application that protects you against all errors, from Internet Explorer to even CD/DVD Drives.

When you install Microsoft Fix It, he automatically detects all the errors that need to be fixed, and it let’s you choose if you want to fix it or not. After searching for all the errors on your PC, the software shows all the errors on it’s simple interface, with an (also) simple description. For more indepth, you can click the “Detail” button.

When you want to fix the errors, just click the “Run” button, and it will fix them, so just reboot the PC after that.

If you want to get Microsoft Fix It (it’s a free download), you can here.

Office 2010 also has fixed the RAM hogging problems that Powerpoint and Word 2007 had. Let’s see if this suite will be better than 2007, like Windows 7 was better than Windows Crapista (sorry, Vista).

Some of you might be on Windows 7, and you might get slowdowns sometimes (if you were used to XP). Here in the post I am gonna show you a free tool for Windows 7 that let’s you run your PC more smoother.

SetteMaxer was launched when Windows 7 was even on beta stages, but it has been getting bug fixes, and adding features for the final version of Windows 7.

SetteMaxer can do several things, including disabling reboot when your system gets a blue screen (so it will show the dreathful screen, so you can see what went wrong), or even enabling the Sidebar (aka Widgets) when the User Account Control (UAC) is enabled. Of course, if you selected something you didn’t want, you can click the Restore button.

You can get SetteMaxer for Windows 7 here.

Hi guys, Nuno here, and in this post, I talk to you about a program for Windows 7 called Taskdock. Well, this program makes your 7 Superbar look even more like a dock. because it centers the dock (sorry, superbar). Do do this, just run the TaskDock.exe file available in the .zip file, that you can download from here.

And that’s done! You now have your icons on the superbar centered, just like the dock! Now, we need an application to make the Windows 7 superbar to resize, so we can make it more like a dock….

If you were one of the beta testers of Windows 7 when the pre-beta was announced on microsofts website that was claimed to run till June 1st of 2010 will still usable but will need to be activated at the start of March 1st. A warning is issued showing how much time you have left to active windows with a OEM copy or upgrade all together to a OEM version from the beta. If not windows will shut down every 2 hours without saving current work as directly quoted from Microsoft site

The Windows 7 RC expires on June 1, 2010. Starting on March 1, 2010, PCs running Windows 7 RC began shutting down every two hours.

If you’re still running the RC, your PC will continue shutting down every two hours and your files won’t be saved during shutdown. In addition, your wallpaper will change to a solid black background with a persistent message on your desktop. You’ll also get periodic notifications that Windows isn’t genuine. That means your PC may no longer be able to obtain optional updates or downloads requiring genuine Windows validation.

To avoid interruption, please reinstall a prior version of Windows or move to Windows 7. In either case, you’ll need to do a custom (clean) install to replace the RC. As with any clean installation, you’ll need to back up your data then reinstall your applications and restore the data.

Thanks again for helping us test Windows 7

So now you have the option of either backing up all your data and buy Windows 7 and upgrade from the beta version or downgrade to vista or xp , in my case I took my windows 7 install and installed my Intel X-25 M SSD in my computer and partitioned that drive for a new XP Pro install and migrated my important data from windows 7 . Also take advantage of tools like Foxmarks, Carbonite , etc for online back up of data and bookmarks and sites from browsers etc to transfer over to your new OS install.

My personal opinions on the matter is that Microsoft will annoy some users with the whole upgrade phase by shutting down their PC’s every 2 hours and don’t even give you the courtesy of saving your current work. Also complaints of people who are using their windows 7 beta install for projects etc as its their main OS and only have several hours to upgrade of course you can go out and buy a windows 7 CD and carry on though it will still annoy plenty of people and I’m sure hacks around the activation time will be up on the web in a matter of days.

So what are your opinions will you be upgrading to 7 Ultimate or downgrading to XP or vista , for the time being I’ll be on XP till I can get a windows 7 disc then migrate my data over.

Feel free to comment below …

Note, this only works with Windows 7. If you had been testing Mozilla Firefox 3.6’s betas, you would know that it had Taskbar/Superbar Previous on it, like on IE 8. Yesterday, I was searching around on about:config, to see if I find something fun to mess around, but instead, I found out the following name:

“browser.taskbar.previews.enable”, and it was defined as “false”. So all you do to enable the taskbar previews, is just to change it to true.

And voilá! You have it enabled again, and you can see a screenshot of it below:

So, thanks for watching this quick Firefox tip, and I will see you later.

This week marked the release of Microsofts newest operating system Windows 7 . A big step from windows xp and a upgrade from vista , windows 7 offers a more stable ,faster, efficient operating system experience while adding a new sort of UI with its new super-bar. If you were an early adopter and like myself decided to move to windows 7 as your main OS early on using the RC (Release Candidate ) then you most likely had to migrate your data over unless you did a pure clean install. Now if your on windows xp or vista or even and older version of windows it’s recommended that you do a clean install rather then taking all your settings and data and migrating it, now keep in mind if you have some important data like documents that you need you can use the windows transfer option to upgrade over to Win 7. As for your applications no worries theres great multi app installers like

- Smart Installer & Ninite

Many upgrade options depending what version your looking to get you can shoot for the great student deal to get a copy for only 30 $ ! Over at www.win741.com or if you just recently bought a new laptop you can check to see if you eligible for the free upgrade. Enough of the windows 7 news and tip talk my main question for the post

WILL YOU BE UPGRADING TO WINDOWS 7?

Or will you be one of the following:

- Staying with XP

-Staying with Vista

- Staying with OSX

-Staying with Linux

Whats your status? Drop a comment below in the post on what your doing with the new windows 7 release .

I’ll be sure to post your thoughts in the post…

—————————

Thanks, Adrian

Oh by the way if you haven’t already noticed I’ll be upgrading to windows 7 with the student deal =)

COMMUNITY SAYS

@Dombev- I have upgraded to Windows 7 and dual booted XP and 7

@Wee493- I’m using windows 7 beta right now, but will buy windows 7 soon!

@EchoEpsilon23-The only problem with Windows 7 Student Discount is that it only applies to University or College students, not one’s in Highschool or Graduate school in from my knowledge, so I wouldn’t be so quick to jump on the bandwagon.

@anthonzi- I’m staying with Vista until I’m either sure upgrading to win7 will not completely destroy my custom rig, or I have the opportunity to build a new machine.

@klavender87- Well I upgraded to Windows 7 and did a clean install!! So far all my programs and devices work great! The few games I added work good, no problems with the graphics!!!

Hey guys & gals, I recently recorded a video which will be embedded below, of my tips, tricks , and tweaks to speeding up performance in windows 7.

I’ve decided to compile a blog post to go little in-depth and add some more links to other references & guides , so enjoy please take time to Comment, Rate, Subscribe to the video & channel and if you have the time COMMENT on the blog post please really provides great feedback.

First off you can download the Final RC Build of Windows 7 at

http://wiurl.com/c1Io3

HERES TO VIDEO IF YOU WANT TO WATCH IT INSTEAD

Lets begin

MSCONFIG

NOTE: Tweaking anything in msconfig should be done with caution & confidence you know what your disabling if your not sure don’t do it and if you need help I’ll leave links to show what the services do and what’s safe to disable etc…

One of my favorite configuration utility built in windows is the MSCONFIG (Microsoft Configuration Utility) to access this panel to tweak out windows go to

Start Menu (7 Orb) —> Type in the Search/Run Field —> Msconfig

Some tabs that have some good tweak able options are shown below

Boot Tab has options to set times to improve start up/shutdown time

To Improve Shutdown time set the Timeout Time from 30 to 3 Seconds in the boot tab.

The Services Tab has a list of all the services running on your pc whether its default services or program services , disabling a certain of unneeded services will increases overall operating system performance. A hand feature is you can check the box “ Hide All Microsoft Services” which hides the default services and shows your 3rd party services running very helpful for troubleshooting , and disabling unneeded operating system services.

A great article that shows what services do and what’s safe to disable

http://www.blackviper.com/Windows_7/servicecfg.htm

The last tab for tweaks and one of the most effective is the Startup Tab which lists all the programs running at startup and to be honest you probably don’t need programs like Skype, MSN, I-Tunes, Utorrent etc running at startup and can disable it , and just run the applications when needed with a good 4 less programs launching at startup it really improves start up time.

The Eye Candy

Since the launch of vista there’s been a lot more eye candy compared to XP thus carries on to windows 7 just not as much of a memory hog as vista. Using these features can really bog system performance down with the shadows, fades ,animations etc. I’m not saying run the classic themes just go in and tweak some options off and this is how.

The easiest way to adjust for best performance and or customize the eye-candy features

Start Menu - Right click “ My Computer” – Properties – Then click Advanced System Settings in the panel to the side- Lastly click the advanced tab and settings under Performance

Now just tweak as appropriated either let windows choose, adjust for best performance or appearance ,or set your custom tweaks.

Maintenance & Misc. Tweaks

Maintaining the system for best (performance is just as important as tweaking it keeping it clean of old files, bloat ware , and making hardware run at its best is a great way to keep the system run at top performance.

First off Disable Unused Features in Windows (Exp- Internet Explorer 8, Windows Games ,etc) Going into control panel and programs and “Turn Windows Features Off” allows you to go through and un-tick the features you don’t use within windows

In the same section make sure you daily run through add/remove programs and uninstall/remove old programs that aren’t used etc.

As for windows hardware running at its best make sure you daily Defrag & Clean your hard rive the operating system runs off it and the less spaced and cluttered it is the faster it runs. Within windows to great built in tools are Disk Defragmenter & Disk Clean-up a defragment essentially compresses your files/data closer together so the hard drive can access it easier while a clean up does as it says and shows old temporary files or bloat ware etc that you can clear out for more hard drive space. I’d recommend running each at least once a month. You can easily access these tools by going to

Start Menu- All Programs – Accessories – System Tools – Disk Defragmenter or Disk Clean-Up

Lastly MAINTAIN VIRUS SCANS can stress enough do daily Full scans, time to time run quick scans, and if you got a suspicious file Custom scan it. If your system is compromised it can never be sure that you rid the virus and can even bog the system down etc so just be cautious and be safe.

————————————————————————————————-

Other great 3rd party software to maintain your pc are listed below

CCleaner ( Crap Cleaner)

Revo Unistall (Unistalls those pesky programs & Cleans out Directories )

Large Files (Shows largest files on system)

Hope you enjoyed the guide & it helps you improve your windows 7 performance and experience overall.

As you may have heard, Microsoft will be releasing their new OS ( Operating System ), Windows 7, this October. If you haven’t already tried this OS out yet, you can download the RC ( Release Candidate ) here, although this download will soon expire so get it quick.

Microsoft’s previous OS, Vista, caused many problems for people, and MS ( Microsoft) wanted to create a more accessible and user friendly GUI ( Graphical User Interface ). Many people who had problems with Vista downgraded to Windows XP. The problem: Microsoft won’t let users using Windows XP upgrade to Windows 7. Microsoft has gone on record stating that there is “no supported upgrade path” for users running an OS older than Vista.

Do not fret if you are still running Windows XP, but you also want to give Windows 7 a try. There are ways around this. Either you can buy Vista, upgrade, get Windows 7, and upgrade to it, which I don’t recommend, or you can explore a freeware called Microsoft Virtual PC. This freeware allows you to run other operating systems like Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, and even Linux if you prefer. If you wish to learn more about Microsoft Virtual PC check it out here.

If you have any questions or comments feel free to reach me here, or just leave a comment on the blog.

Recenty, well actually today I switched to Windows 7 as my main operating system. So far I’m very impressed with the OS. The install finished in just over 8 minutes! Then once I booted the audio, video card, and internet drivers were all already installed. I had a fully functional OS out of the box. This is something that was previously vary hard to come by.

This is the OS that windows Vista should have been. Its fast, backwards compatible, powerfull, runs on minimal resources, and have a nice ui. I would really reccomend upgrading to Windows 7 Here. Many of the features that I did not like with my virtual machine install i came to enjoy after actual use with them. The large task bar seemed too big, but after some use it seems just right. All of the task bar effects and little quirks add a lot to the over look of the interface.

The Search works just as well as vista and is better graphically. The best way I can explain Windows 7 is an operating system that looks little bit better/cooler than vista and works correctly.

Camtasia Studio Editing Tip:
Audio Enhancements

Audio is a huge part of your video! Without good audio you don’t have a good video. When recording any tutorial or vlog make sure you have a good mic and or positioning of your mic and try to cut as much background noise in the first place.

-Turn AC off or on low
-Fans etc off
-Laptops to Sleep mode so fan isn’t on or roaring
etc…

So taking care of all the sound problems in the first place helps when in editing mode. These audio enhancements will help boost your audio ,lessen the background noise ,and level your audio so it all sounds professional and clear.

Hope you enjoy this camtasia tip look forward to more tips coming….

VIRTUAL XP MODE

News in that Windows 7 , Microsoft’s new operating system will have an XP mode allowing users to run applications in a virtual type state as if it was in XP. Leading to more software compatibilities and happier customers. Ultimately leading to the goal of getting more users who are on xp and haven’t made the jump to vista to consider using windows 7.

Virtual PC Beta Software

The software is part of their new Virtual PC software. Microsoft says that it will help buisnesses run software that requires xp to run. The software is still in beta , but will soon be released for the windows 7 ultimate and professional versions.

One big disappointment in vista was the incompatibility issues of both hardware and software hopefully this will be one big step in moving the majority over to the new windows 7 come release time.

The news has been confirmed from microsofts blog at

If you have used System 7, then you probably want to use it again for some reason. You want to, well, play around with it again. Well of course you could rarely find an installer for System 7, but if you do, could you install it on your Mac? If you can’t then that means you can’t do it also on a PC. But there’s a way to use it on a Mac and a PC. The only things you need is a web browser and Flash Player. It’s called WebSE – System 7 Emulation. It’s a flashed based web operating system. You could play games (Snakes, Tetris, etc.) and it also has Eudora, in which you could compose an e-mail to the web master, it also has After Dark, which is basically a screen saver thingy. There are many more features and I can’t walk you through everything in just one blog post. You could explore all of it’s features here

By the way, I’m technokid11, a new blog writer of Tech World. Expect more posts!
