Steam a great program for PC gamers. Now all the Macintosh users can join the Steam Community! Steam for Mac has been released last May 12th, the same day Steam showed the free Portal game. They had planned to release both in the same day to promote of course Steam for Mac and the upcoming sequel to Portal, Portal 2.

You may be wondering “What is Steam?”. My answer: “Well, little noob, Steam is a program that let’s you connect with your friends while you game. You can also buy full games on the Steam Store or you can just download demos.”  So there you go a short description for Steam.

Pandion is a free IM client, which uses the XMPP protocol, which is compatible with Windows Live, Google Talk, Facebook Chat, and many other services. This is a very simple and light IM Client. It has several emoticons, and the convos are separated by separators. You can also install extra themes onto Pandion.

This software is only compatible with Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows 2000. Mac and Linux are not yet compatible.

Now note this is not 100% confirmed by apple as the new phone or  final model, it could very well be a test phase prototype.

The design for the new phone has changed dramatically from the curve/ergonomic design to a flat and more rounded device while still keeping its same front design. The screen has a higher resolution than the previous models and now has an integrated front-facing camera for self portrait shots and video.  As for the buttons on the side the volume rocker is now split into two separate buttons while the same silent mode switch is still in its original location and the traditional sim card slot is now a micro-sim slot. The top features the same power/sleep button a 3.5 mm headphone jack with an additional mic on the top as well as bottom though the top could possibly be used for noise-cancellation while in phone calls.

Some other extra features on the phone include a flash on the back camera though no megapixel rate has been stated yet, the phone also has a 16% larger battery and is about 3 grams heavier.

The internals were also dissected by Gizmodo and a picture of the hardware and new thinner bigger battery can be seen from the picture below.

Personal Opinions

My thoughts on the design is while it just at first doesn’t seem apple like or something that would meet Steve Jobs standards , with the seams and extra buttons , apple is all about simplicity and almost never adds more physical aspects as they upgrade more likely they make the internals faster and smaller while keeping the outside simplistic. I also will have to get used to the new shape of the device if this really is going to be the new 4g phone its something I’ll have to hold to actually get the feel of the rounded shape. Though I do agree that with these new buttons that they will integrate well with the 4.0 OS and updates to the iPhone operating system to come as they can play an additional role in applications like games etc which would add to the flexibility of the device.  Internal component wise  heavier by 3 grams doesen’t bother me much as the new battery should finally add more life to the device that I’m constantly charging .

What I’m looking for mainly hardware wise  in the new phone that isn’t yet confirmed is:

- Better quality camera 5+ megapixels

-2 or enhanced bottom speakers whether they keep one or add another speaker I just want better audio quality out of the device

-HD screen and hopefully the new material on the back isn’t as fingerprint attractive and more protective towards the phone

Bundled with the new upcoming 4.0 OS this device can really reinvent the iPhone and start a new spark in the phone market. Though again do realize that nothing is 100% confirmed as of now its still rumors and speculation we’ll have to wait towards the future on further announcements.

Windows users are maybe used to little errors and bugs on the OS. Microsoft Fix It is a little tool developed in July 2009 by Microsoft to protect the Microsoft Office users from hackers.

Quickly it became an application that protects you against all errors, from Internet Explorer to even CD/DVD Drives.

When you install Microsoft Fix It, he automatically detects all the errors that need to be fixed, and it let’s you choose if you want to fix it or not. After searching for all the errors on your PC, the software shows all the errors on it’s simple interface, with an (also) simple description. For more indepth, you can click the “Detail” button.

When you want to fix the errors, just click the “Run” button, and it will fix them, so just reboot the PC after that.

ArtistX is a Linux distribution that “transforms” your PC onto a multimedia studio. This is a distribution based on Ubuntu (so it uses the Gnome Interface), and it comes with more than 2000 music/photo/video related software, all free.

It comes packaged with software like Blender, GIMP, Audacity, Kdenlive, Last.FM, VLC, and much more. It also comes with CD/DVD burning software, so nothing is missed in there.

You can also install all the software you can install on Ubuntu/Kubuntu, etc since it uses the same engine (like I mentioned above)

Of course, this is a free Linux distro, and you can use a live CD to try it out (like you can do with most distros), and you still can use the cool eyecandy (Compiz-Fusion).

If you’re a video editor, or any kinda of multimedia user, I recommend using this distribution, since you don’t have to pay for it, and you don’t need to install extra software, and if you’re a dark themes fan, this is even another reason for you to use it, since its default theme is a black one.

Finally, Microsoft Office 2010 was recently RTM’ed. Office 2010 will be in stores in probably July 2010, and soon to be on Torrent Trackers. Office 2010 has several new features, and a new design that has a similar look to Office 2003.

Office 2010 also has fixed the RAM hogging problems that Powerpoint and Word 2007 had. Let’s see if this suite will be better than 2007, like Windows 7 was better than Windows Crapista (sorry, Vista).

Multitasking

The feature of multitasking was a long awaited feature to be added but apple finally unveiled it during the keynote . They did all while maintaining battery life and current state of apps , for example when your in an app like Tap Tap revenge and have to check your mail you can simply double tap the home button and up pops the multitask menu then simply open up mail and once your done can do the same thing and resume your current tap tap game.

Folder App Management

Another feature highly requested in the community and another of which is available on the jailbroken side has now been released for the 4.0 and has done it in a nice seamless way. The user simply holds an icon the home screen wait for them to jiggle and then drags an app over another app and it forms a folder and then asks the user to rename it . A great example is featured here from one of the fellow blog writers picture @wee493 on twitter.

Mail Box Improvements

The mailbox improvements help in the business area of the iphone as checking mail is much easier and more convenient as it puts all your emails into one inbox though the seperate email inboxes are still available if you need to read the mail sorted out , it also now threads your email conversations for example if you have 7 emails from one person it threads the email replies so you don’t have mail cluttering your inbox.

iAD

iAd’s is apples new market approach to changing the advertising industry on the iPhone, iTouch, iPad app store. They first tried earlier purchasing a company called Ad Mob but didn’t fall through with the deal and later purchased Quattro another ad company. They essentially will be taking the Ads in that are integrated in some apps and change them to stuff that matches what your viewing for example if your in an entertainment app it has Ads on the latest movies and the iAd will give you an in app ad and won’t bring you into safari , it will be able to play video, download apps while in an ad all from the iAd interface. This is a controversial topic on how apple will do though it does make the ads more interesting it can interfere with the apps and get a bit annoying. Steve claims its not a get rich quick scheme as 60% goes to the developers he claims that its all for the developers, so that those who make free apps can still make revenue by making an iAd.

*Wallpapers-users can now have home screen wall papers rather than the ordinary black home screen

*Bluetooth Devices- Bluetooth keyboards are now compatible with the iphone and touch so you can hook up a wireless keyboard up and type away

*Spell Check- Spell check is now included and makes a red underscore under the incorrectly spelled word with options for corrections.

*Spot light search- Search on the phone now includes an option to search google or wikipedia for stuff not found locally on the phone

*SMS Search & character count – SMS now has search available to find certain words mentioned in the texts and even has an included character count when sending texts.

*Album Info- Albums details can now be viewed like artist , thumbnails etc.

*Camera Zoom and Video focusing while recording is now available

along with many other small changes both interface wise and software.

Overall the 4.0 OS is a big update and I’d recommended anyone to update even if your jailbroken run a restore when it comes out and if you still need your jailbroken apps then wait for the firmware to be cracked which shouldn’t be less then 2 weeks once 4.0 is released. They added many new features some rumored and some not expected overall the 4.0 iphone/itouch/ipad os will add a whole new feel to the phone and really touches up on things like customizing , productivity , and overall better experience with your device. Mainly I’m looking to see how they worked on battery life and how the device will maintain its reliability and speed with all the new features. Only time will tell , stay tuned for more updates and how to ge tthe 4.0 developer beta for your phone.

So I was just surfing around the web when I came across this article about the Linux MPX Multi-touch table and I thought this would be a good idea for a post, so here it is.

This project is run by Peter Hutterer. Now the Linux MPX Multi-touch table doesn’t look that attractive than the Microsoft Surface but it does show how far the open source crowd has come. It is a modification of the X Windows Server that allows multiple input devices to be used at the same time. For it to work all you need is a normal computer, a keyboard and a mouse, nothing fancy there. The software is still under heavy development so it’s not ready for use yet.

What’s cool is that this system lets multiple users work together on an application at the same time.

The project Peter Hutterer also answered some question in an interview with gizmodo so be sure to check that out if you want to know more. This certainly is one thing to keep your eye on as the development progresses.

Here’s a demo of the Linux MPX Multi-touch table which provides very good insight of what this device can do.

SetteMaxer was launched when Windows 7 was even on beta stages, but it has been getting bug fixes, and adding features for the final version of Windows 7.

SetteMaxer can do several things, including disabling reboot when your system gets a blue screen (so it will show the dreathful screen, so you can see what went wrong), or even enabling the Sidebar (aka Widgets) when the User Account Control (UAC) is enabled. Of course, if you selected something you didn’t want, you can click the Restore button.

Recently google aquired Gizmo5, a voip company similar to skype. Rumors have been swhirling arround that google has been testing a desktop application for google voice internally. If this is true it could be bad news for skype. If this voice application has chat, like skype, many users may switch over because of voices’ ability to call land lines for free. (Though most likely this application will lack some of skypes key features like video calls and file transfers.)This is good for users and I think it may be the push google voice needs to become more mainstream. Currently the average person has no clue what google voice is but a desktop application may change that.

One of the most famous cellphone making company is getting ready to launch a new Tablet to try and beat the Apple’s iPad. It seems that this Tablet will be running a light Linux distro, and that it will have a camera (this means, you can take photos, and install Linux applications in there), unlike the iPad. Of course, this Nokia tablet is yet to be named, and it will be most used for listening to music, and browsing the web (probably). Who confirmes are some technology sources, which are also the same ones who launched the rumors of the iPhone. So, will this beat Apple’s iPad? I think that it will, since this has a Camera and a REAL Operating System installed. The prices of it are yet to be known.

The new design offers :

-  New Video Que Panel of related and more user videos all in one pane , it also features another box if your viewing a subscription video it will go through your subscription box and watch videos in the sequential order they were uploaded , thus the new button next to the play button when viewing a subscription video.

-Details Box has been moved under with an expandable pane and a views statistics from youtubes insight program has been integrated in as well.

-The comment and rating system has added a @ reply feature very similar to sites like twitter to direct your reply in the commenting thread it also has taken away the 5 star rating system which i personally liked over the new I like or Dislike the video there is no middle option for rating content either you like or dislike .

-As for the other options like substitles , annotations , sharing features etc are all added into these new web 2.0 like buttons under the details box and above the video itself.

Overall the new layout does focus more on the content and simplifies everything into general boxes rather than multiple , though now it has a more plain feeling to the page it does appeal to some new users in that its easy to navigate though for existing and power users this layout may pose and issue , also the previous methods that we’ve all gotten used to as producers of content like description in the right and rate 5 stars etc have all become routine for us to tell our viewers and now with change the producers have to change they’re methods as the layout changes.

I personally have a jail broken iPhone 3G with multiple hacks and the only drawbacks being it takes a toll on battery life , it breaks apple’s EULA ( User License Agreement ) , also your stuck waiting on the next jailbreak once current firmwares are updated. Though in return you get a load of customizable features and new software to explore for your device. So whats your opinion do you prefer apple’s default device and software OS or would you rather have a jail broken device leave comments and your opinions below and make sure to leave your votes in the poll.

Campaign Review

The campaign features 18 action packed levels of game play with 4 different difficulty modes to play in .

The terrain and different objectives of the missions keep you doing various tasks and action filled throughout the whole campaign and sets up a new story line with a new enemy by the name of

Vladmir Makarov.

Though the story line is great and the missions are fun the campaigns overall length is short only taking around 5-6 hour to beat on regular mode and taking up to 6-7 on the harder difficulty . Many new and old characters (Capt. Price , Soap Mactavish , Ghost , General Sheppard ) are shown throughout the storyline and overall the ending really adds a craving for more game play .

Special-Ops

Spec-Ops is the new feature that allows you and a friend to team up to take on special op tasks many which are ported mission parts from the game. Ops like  Target range, One player controlling an AC130 from above while another on foot is navigated throughout the map , and many other mini- games and built in to keep you playing and having fun even If you’ve beaten the game. You can as well play solo and try to beat your current records or achieve a certain score to unlock more special ops missions . This mode is a great thing to try if you get bored after beating the campaign and tired form the online play though I was hoping to see support for more than 2 team support in the missions.

Multi-Player

The most important and highly played feature of course is the local multiplayer game mode and online play modes like XBL and PSN are popular ways of competing with players around the world in various different matches to gain experience points to level up and unlock new weapons and weapon attachments.

Along with this the mode features the ability to customize classes to switch between games from sniper weapons to assault rifles and more. The perk system as well adds advantages to balance out the teams and gives perks like unlimited sprint, Longer knife range, extra bullet damage  , etc. Lastly it features leader boards and challenges to unlock to keep you wanting to achieve new tasks in the game even if your the highest level and or prestige. The online game play itself is very solid unless your unlucky and end up in a Red bar connection type game , players for the most part are friendly though a mute option is available and the many match types give you a diverse type of play to engage in with your friends. Overall the multilayer is great but does lack minor flaws the new map pack is coming up and making up for the small amount of maps as offered , as well as lacks some of the features that we’re offered in campaign though weren’t implemented in the online play like close able heartbeat sensor , night vision , etc.

My overall rating of the product is a 7 / 10  , If your looking for a decent cheap portable camera to record vlogs or those vacation moments this is the perfect camera for good lighting situations both indoors and outdoors if your looking for expandability this doesn’t have much external outlets other than the HDMI out put for your TV playback , though quality is great for its size and price.

The controller resembles Nintendo’s Wii remote and nunchuck in where one is used with one hand while the sub-controller is used in your other hand for other various tasks in gaming. Gaming now a days has shifted majorly in not only the games produced but how we play them as well , whether or not this will be a huge competitor towards the motion- gaming market is yet to be seen, time will only tell. Though in my personal opinion Sony will have a lot more to add to the move controller to compete with Project Natal in were they use only video to recognize the gamer and turn there body to a controller. The market still needs more innovation to press forward and I think by late 2010 we’ll start to see more and more updates as well as get a better idea on how these products work.
