I have been seeing the Ford commercials about the new Sync feature in some of their newer models. If you don’t know what the Sync feature is it is voice commands via a button on your steering wheel to control the stereo system on your Ford Sync enabled car. You can control iPods, Cd’s, and the radio all from voice commands.
The features and functionality of sync is very nice. It supports iPods, Zunes and a few other MP3 players. The voice commands work very well and the system never had any trouble understanding what I was saying. Upon pluging in my iPod the system said please wait while your device is indexed. At this point I was very worried thinking that this could take hours. But shortly later (within 30 seconds) it prompted that it was done indexing. I tested out by saying “play artist Led Zeppelin.” without any problems it began playing!
So far there have only been two major bugs/flaws that are somewhat annoying. The first is that once you plugin the iPod the screen is not useable. There is just a message that says “Accessory Connected”. This is annoying because you can’t select a song manually only via sync. I know that this is a safety feature, but still somewhat annoying. The second annoying thing that I have discovered is that everything you press the button to do a voice command there is a message. The message is something like “USB, please say a song or and artist”. This is helpful when you are getting to know how sync works, but once your used to it that 5 seconds worth of things you already know gets pretty annoying.
Overall the Sync feature on Fords is much better than i thought. It is very functionable and I would recommend getting it if you are looking to buy a ford.
