Tech-Story Of The Week: Googles Harmful Adware Meltdown

GOOGLES ADWARE MELTDOWN

So if you were tuning in to all the rss feeds and web this week , mainly google. There was a malware alert meltdown, for about 40 minutes to an hour. Google works with a company “Stop Adware” who they help make lists of sites that are “harmful to your computer” made by humans. Now somehow a ” / ” of code (Slash) which equals a wildcard of everything of their library. So essentially all of your google results were marked as harmful.

The google official blog, later announced the error and had its explanations at

Followed by the StopBadware  explanation

My Story

I noticed the incident at the time when i was looking for online video conference software form y friend “Oovoo” .  I noticed that literally all my top results of good companies site marked ” As harmful”.

It was posted about throughout the web including twitter, and many sites im sure contacted their providers and google not knowing what was going on.

So goes to show one even the smallest error can crash the web, many would think you’d double checkyour upgrade before posting out  then again its a small mistake that many could miss.

Always make sure to check twitter and the web for updates like this to make sure it’s never just you.

Google is still my favorite and great search provider, but even big companies like google can have the smallest mistake crash the one of the biggest internet database.
